Evaluation of CEA and CA15.3 as circulating tumor markers in breast cancer patients in and around coimbatore

چکیده
Tumor markers are biochemical signs of tumor existence and consist of cell surface antibodies, cytoplasm proteins, enzymes and hormones. The present study was performed to compare the level of CEA and CA15.3 as circulating tumor markers in breast cancer patients. Among 97 breast cancer subjects selected for the study, the levels of CEA and CA15.3 were observed in various stages of breast cancer. Mean level of CEA and CA15.3 were quantitatively determined by EIA. The finding revealed a statistical (p<0.05) elevation in the level of CEA in stage IV (100.00%) followed by stage III (53.84%) and stage II (33.33%). On comparison, the CA15.3 is considered to be the best to detect the early stages of breast cancer than CEA. Measuring the levels of CA15.3 and CEA can be helpful for early diagnosis. 2009 Trade Science Inc. INDIA KEYWORDS

Alterations of PSA, CA15.3, CA125, Cyfra21-1, CEA, CA19.9, AFP and Tag72 tumor markers in human blood serum due to long term exposure to high levels of natural background radiation in Ramsar, Iran
Background: Ramsar (Mazandran province) is known for its extremely high levels of natural background radiation. Although no excess cancer rate is reported in these areas by epidemiological studies, the study of tumor markers in the inhabitants of these areas may shed some light on the impact of high levels of background radiation on cancer induction. Materials and Methods: The level of backgrou...

Background and purpose: Breast cancer is the most common malignant tumor and the leading cause of carcinoma death in women, with more than 1.000.000 cases occuring world wide annually. Recently, particular attention has been paid to sensitive/rapid and cheap laboratory methods for diagnosis of metastatic breast cancer. Evaluation of serum tumor markers including CEA and CA15-3 is one of these...
متن کاملEvaluation of tumor markers in southern Indian breast cancer patients.
Tumor markers are biochemical substances elaborated by tumor cells either due to the cause or effect of malignant processes. Here we investigated serum levels of cancer antigen (CA15.3) and carcino embryonic antigen (CEA) in 153 pre and post operated southern Indian breast cancer patients (stage-I- 45, stage-II-55, stage-III- 53 samples) and 37 normal controls.Patients with malignant lesions ha...
متن کاملEvaluation of the Relationship between Peroxisome Proliferator Receptors (PPARα, PPARγ, and PPARδ) Expression and Carcinoembryonic Antigen (CEA) in Patients with Colorectal Cancer
Introduction: Studies have shown that an increase in carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) is associated with the progression of colorectal cancer and is considered a sensitive diagnostic factor for CRC. Moreover, the role of peroxisome proliferators (PPARs) has recently been considered in colorectal cancer. This study aimed to investigate the relationship between the expression level of PPARs and CEA...
